Why do you need my social security number?

Your social security number is needed upon registration because we are required by law to report certain winnings to the IRS. To better understand what winnings are reported, please see the question below.

Are my winnings taxed?

In general, winning wagers are reportable to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) when the winnings are: (1) $600 or more; and (2) at least 300 times the amount of the wager (or “Reportable Winning Wagers”). Reportable Winning Wagers are filed with the IRS using Form W-2G.

If winnings minus the wager exceed $5,000 and the winnings are at least 300 times the wager, then federal income tax must be withheld at a rate of twenty-five percent (25%).  Such withholding applies to the total amount of winnings less the amount of the wager, not merely the amount in excess of $5,000.  Notwithstanding the foregoing, if a winner fails to provide the correct SSN, federal income tax must nonetheless be withheld at a rate of twenty-eight percent (28%) even though the reportable winning wagers fail to exceed the $5,000 threshold.  Any federal income tax withholding is reported using Form W-2G.

You may be subject to additional state and local taxes based on your state of residence.   Hollywood Races will report all taxes as required by law.

What happens to my wager when a horse has been scratched that is part of my wager?

Hollywood Races follows the rules in the jurisdiction where the host track is located.  We will mirror the host track's policies when it comes to providing refunds or assigning other horses in accordance for handling scratches. The decision of the host track is final.

What happens if my wager isn’t transmitted properly?

Wagering instructions transmitted using your Account are sent into combined pools at the host track, which may have minimum wager or other requirements to accept wagers.  In the event wagering instructions are accepted by us but not transmitted or accepted by the host track for any reason (including, without limitation, tote error, track error, communications complications, merge failure or any mechanical, communications or human error), the Company either (i) will accept the wager if it is a straight, exacta, or trifecta wager and pay the official host track pari-mutuel payouts for such winning wagers in the applicable pool; or otherwise (ii) will cancel the wager if it is an exotic wager (any wager other than a straight, exacta, or trifecta wager) and refund the wagering amount to your Account.

What happens if the host track posts incorrect payoffs?

In the event multiple “official” prices are posted by the host track (as a result of miscalculation of payoffs by the track, an error by the state judges, or any other reason), we will ascertain the final “official” prices from the host track and will make any adjustment to your Account necessary to correct any incorrect debits or credits made to your Account as a result of receiving the non-final “official” prices.

What handicapping information on the races is available?

We offer a wide variety of Thoroughbred & Harness racing information for participating tracks running each day.   In the “Free Picks” section of the website Hollywood Races plans to offer free stakes selections and analysis every Friday for selected feature races for that weekend and free daily selections from local on-site personalities and handicappers at several Penn National Gaming, Inc. affiliated racetracks for each racing day.

Additionally, past performances are offered on a complimentary basis for several international tracks and be alert for special promotions on free or discounted handicapping materials.

Are video streaming and race replays available?

Yes. Live video streaming and race replays are available to active wagering account holders for all tracks available.   Ability to access video may be based on satisfying any of the minimum wagering activity listed below:

  • A minimum of $50 wagered in the previous 7 calendar days. Or:
  • A minimum of $100 wagered in the previous 30 calendar days. Or:
  • A minimum of $250 wagered in the previous 60 calendar days. Or:
  • A minimum of $500 wagered in the previous 90 calendar days. Or:
  • A minimum of $3,000 wagered in the previous 365 calendar days.

Why does my video disappear when I click on the "box" symbol next to the "x" on the video screen?

This occurs when your internet browser is "Blocking Pop-Up's." We recommend using Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari browsers and disabling your "Pop-Up Blocker" for Hollywoodraces.com to get the best video watching experience possible.

Why does my video not show up on when I first log in?

This is to allow you to customize how you would like to assign the racetracks to the three video locations on the screen. In order to assign and load up a track for video, simply locate that track on the left side of the page and click on the small "drop-down arrow" which will give you the options to make it a favorite, play the video on the left, play the video in the middle or play the video on the right. By assigning various tracks to different parts of the screen, you can easily watch three tracks at once and toggle them back and forth as you'd like! By making a track a "favorite" you can then use the "Tracks Module" on the left side of the page to only display your favorite tracks.
